Why is steel fire protection important?

Legislation and standards for steel fire protection
Fire protection of steel structures is subject to strict legislation that ensures buildings and their occupants are protected against potential fire risks. Here are some of the most relevant standards and regulations:
- DS/EN 13381-4:2013: This European standard describes test methods to determine the fire resistance of load-bearing building elements, specifically passive protection of steel parts. To ensure the fire resistance of steel, we use solutions tested according to this standard.
- Building regulations BR18, chapter 5.4: This chapter deals with fire safety and requires that building elements, including steel structures, must be protected against the spread of fire so that the load-bearing capacity is maintained for a given period of time (e.g. EI60 or EI120). Our fire protection solutions ensure that your building meets these requirements.
- BR18 §115: This section states that structures must be designed so that a fire cannot spread through cavities or pass through fire separating building elements, which also applies to steel structures. We ensure that your structures comply with these requirements.
